Customer concerns about Arsenic in timber

All of us would get concerned customers asking us about the effects of arsenic in timber, can CCA timber be used for vegetable gardens, and many more questions along these lines.

A good resource to point customers to is the TPAA website, which answers many FAQ’s and also has whole page dedicated to CCA timber treatments.

Even though the TPAA states that the treatment chemicals don’t leach from timber after they are fixated into the timber (see FAQ #12), there are several other online forums and experts which strongly discourage the use of CCA timber in such applications. We have found it more beneficial to provide the customer with alternatives to the CCA treated timber for use in their garden beds.
